# About Tim Koopmans is a technologist, founder and engineer from Melbourne, Australia with a passion for performance and a love of automating things. Decisive but imaginative, pragmatic but relentlessly curious, he spent his early career as an Army Officer before building a career in software engineering, performance and automation. In 2013 he founded Flood IO, a distributed load test platform serving thousands of organisations globally. Tim has since been building with high performance databases, quantitative finance and machine learning and pursuing a growing obsession with open-water swimming since a certain global pandemic. He then spent a year travelling around Australia with his family, swimming the best beaches they could find, and recently completed his third [winter crossing](https://www.ripswim.com.au/winterripswim) of the notorious Rip at the entrance to Port Phillip Bay, in nothing but speedos.
